Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse

Hey girlies!

I am usually not really a fan of cream products because I didn't have much luck with most of the ones I have used before. However I'm always open to try new products because obviously I can't know whether I'll like a product until I try them. With that in mind, I've decided to go for this cream foundation from Maybelline. I had used their Dream Matte Mousse Makeup years ago and it just didn't do anything for me. Though this is part of the "mousse" line, it's nothing like mousse in texture and I guess that was the reason I went for it. FYI: I purchased this foundation in shade "Natural Beige" or 240. I believe it comes in about 10 different shades.

Packaging:
Improved compact design as opposed to the pot version of Dream Matte Mousse Foundation in which you have to dip your fingers to get the product out. Compact has two parts. Top part lifts up and reveals a sponge for application. I don't know why but I was expecting to see a mirror in this compact but there is none. Oh well. Then you twist off the top part and ta-da there is the foundation in all it's glory!

Formula:
Name of this product has a "mousse" in it and I think it's kind of misleading. Someone who never used a product from Maybelline's mousse line can easily buy this foundation thinking it has a mousse-like texture. It's absolutely not. It definitely does not have the same texture as their Dream Mousse blushes or Dream Matte Mousse Foundation which are what their names say they are. This product is and should be considered as a cream foundation. I have purchased it knowing that it's not a mousse foundation because my local supermarket recently started to put out testers for some cosmetic products and I was able to test it before buying. (Yay, finally!) Formula easily glides on skin and blends out very evenly and quickly. It does a good job hydrating skin and probably because of this, it feels weightless.

Coverage and Finish:
It provides medium coverage; doesn't cover up all the flaws but covers enough so that not every flaw is totally visible. However due to the fact that it is quite pigmented, you can easily build up this foundation and take it's coverage to the next level. In my case I have noticed that it does a good job filling up and covering my pores around my nose area. Finish is semi-matte and a bit on the dewier side. With this foundation, little goes a long way.

Verdict:
It's an okay foundation. I am just not sure if it's something I would repurchase. Sometimes I am just lazy or just don't have much time to get ready so this product will come in handy on those days, I can just slap it on my face and go. I like how light it feels on my face and that it hydrates my skin. Also I was able to find a shade that's almost exactly like my own skin color as you can see in the picture above. It's hard to tell whether I have anything on my hand :) I would have liked it more if it had SPF and a mirror though!

Have you girls purchased this product? What did you think about it?

Hope you all have a beautiful weekend, and if you are in the U.S. Happy 4th! :)

  2. I haven't tried this, looks good for on the go. I'm not really a fan of cream foundations either.
Most of the ones I've tried cake up or slide around after a couple hours. It does match your skintone perfectly! That alone would have sold me!

  4. ..hey sweetie ..

..oh yes , I had this foundation , it was ok , it felt very silky BUT it was too thick in consistency for me ..but I love actual dream foundation , it's just perfect - so silky and smooth for skin and it shares first place for me with favorites ; )

    have a great holiday : )))

  7. I really like the look of this, I tried to look for it here but I don't think it's in the UK? I will keep looking, I can't wait to try it, your swatches look promising! X

  8. Would you say this is comparable to the Mineralize cream foundation from Mac? I like that one but can't justify buying it as I'm about to throw down on MUFE HD for my wedding soon ><

  13. @M¥PriNcessS evet canim fondoten, belki bu vardir bildigim kadariyla Maybelline var Turkiye’de ama soyleyeyim Revlon PhotoReady’nin ustune yok! :)
@ Ann, I think it’s pretty convenient but for me it’s just okay, nothing too special. I love that it matches my skin perfectly though :)
@ LisaInFL, Oh wow, I’m sorry you had to go through that! I haven’t experienced anything like that using it. Everyone’s skin is different though..
@ ellinelle, hey girlie! Yeah it was just ok, I know your favorite is the liquid version and I will try that one someday to see what you’re talking about! Hope you have a great holiday too, have fun!
    @ liloo, you’re very welcome! ;)
@ Chloe, I never tried their concealer but I’m happy with my Benefit erase paste, it’s perfect for me! I wouldn’t recommend this if you need full coverage, if you find a full coverage compact foundation, let me know! ;)
    @ ALEXA-ALEXANDRA, thanks honey! :)
@ Muhsine, So far I have only seen this foundation in my local supermarket, I have not even seen at at the number of drugstores I’ve been to recently. I don’t know what’s taking them so long to distribute? I’m sure it’ll get to UK at one point though, see if you like it. Your skin looks perfect; I don’t think you need full coverage anyway huh? You lucky girl! :)
@ Cydonian, I didn’t even know you’re getting married soon!!! That’s so exciting, congratulations!!! :) I can’t tell you if it’s comparable to MAC’s mineralize cream foundation as I’ve never tried that. I actually bought it the day it came out, but then I read so-so reviews about it online that I ended up returning it. I’m guessing MAC one isn’t anything special because I don’t see too many people using it.
@ The Original Nickel City, thanks so much for your invitation, I’ll stop by your blog soon! :)
@ alyek, I believe that’s because it’s new. So far I have not seen it anywhere besides my local Jewel-Osco market, where I purchased it. I’ve not seen it at Ulta, CVS, Walgreens etc. If you have a Jewel (or Albertons) where you live, you may want to check them out or you may have better luck online, good luck ;)
@ Janine, thanks girly! I have combo skin also, it feels so light and good, but the coverage is medium which I am not crazy about…
@ Andee Layne, Thanks for your comment hun, the polish is Rimmel Steel Gray if you wanna go get a bottle for yourself :)

  14. It's not available in Canada yet, I don't think, but when it does I am totally buying it. I got the liquid mousse recently and loved that.

Great blog, you just got a new follower :)

  15. Thanks for the review! :) Just wondering - what color are you in MAC and how does the color match for this compare?

    ReplyDelete
  16. @ Justine @ Productrater I know that in UK it's under another name, I wonder if that may be the case for Canada as well? I hate it when companies change product names for different countries..I heard great things about liquid mousse, will definitely try it one day :) Thanks so much for your sweet comment! :)

@ Katie, your welcome! :) I'm NC40 in MAC and for this Maybelline foundation I got the shade Natural Beige, I think they are identical! :)

  17. hi. do you wear any other foundation like MAC SFF or NARS Sheer Glow and what is you shade?
I'm thinking about purchasing this foundation but couldn't decide between Natural Beige or Honey Beige.
    thx.

  18. @ marcelle, Hi yes I do wear MAC Studio Fix Fluid as well and I'm usually NC40 but now that it's winter and I'm paler, I'm more like NC35. I did buy the Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse when I was NC40 back in July, I am probably a shade lighter in this Maybelline foundation as well. I've never used NARS Sheer Glow but heard a lot of NC40 ladies wear shade Barcelona in Sheer Glow. Hope this helps! ;)

  19. Natural beige and Honey beige are amazing colors...i am so loving my skin in those..but natural beige though it speaks a shade lighter..we cannot compare natural and honey as lighter or darker...but natural is turning into pinker or cooler tone..and honey beige is so perfect for yellow undertone and warm color side..so olive, asian, indian skin stons go well with honey beige..that shades look darker in pot but skin looks amazing with these...i look natural in honey beige and darker with natural due to the pinker tone in that

  20. if you have oily acne prone skin, which do you prefer dream smooth mousse or dream matte mousse?

    ReplyDelete
  21. @ Mich, My skin is combination and not acne prone but based on what I heard about dream matte mouse from other people, I would not recommend it. A lot of people complain that it makes oily skin shinier and oilier and caused break outs. I think Dream Smooth would also make oily skin even more oily due to its consistency. Have you tried using mineral make-up?
