Discovering - Z Palette

I needed a good, sturdy palette that will house and protect my eye shadows during traveling. I do not find MAC palettes to be sturdy or protective at all. They are great to keep eye shadows organized as long as you are at home. But for traveling, no. I have learned it the hard way. As you can see from below photos a good number of my eye shadows have chipped and cracked inside the MAC palettes during air travel even though I always have my eye shadows with me on board. I even had a gorgeous shade (MAC Humid *tear*) shatter into pieces in a MAC palette. Though I haven't traveled with the Z palette just yet I am pretty confident in it because I can definitely see the big and positive difference between the two.

Before receiving my palette I was afraid it would be too fragile and flimsy because the outside material is actually cardboard. Today I was proven wrong. It looks and feels very solid and well-made. I think this will last through many trips!

I love that it has a clear lid so you can see what's in it. It has enough space for 28 MAC eye shadows. Yep, it's an eye shadow lover's dream come true. No more worrying about what to take or what to leave behind when you're going out of town you may as well take it all :)

The base of the palette is fully magnetized. However unless you have MAC/Inglot or other brand's eye shadows in already magnetized pans, you will need to magnetize the back of your pans that way they will stay in place. Lid is also magnetized and very strong, in fact it's a little tough to open it with just one hand.

Of course there is no rule that this palette is for eye shadows only. Here is how it looks with 4 MAC blushes and some eye shadows. I don't have too many MAC blushes in pans so I have done a little research to find out exactly how many blushes a Z palette can hold and the answer is 8.

Z palette is much thicker than a MAC palette but only a little over half an inch longer and wider.

Z palettes come in three sizes, small ($14) large ($20) and Pro ($28). Small and large come in 4 colors; pink, black, leopard and zebra. Pro, the biggest size, comes in only black. I have purchased mine from the Z palette website. There is currently a 10% off discount code if you 'Like' Z palette's Facebook page. They have also just e-mailed customers about a discount on their pink palettes (both small and large) in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. This offer is valid until October 31 and looks like the discount is already reflected on their website so there is no need for a code.

What do you think about the Z palette? How do you store/travel with your eye shadows?

  1. I'd love one of these, the trick is I don't have enough shadows to fill it ;) Thanks for the filled palette pictures, though; I think they're quite useful!

You've convinced me. I definitely need a Z Palette. Not only does it seem a lot stronger, but I really love how many shadows it holds at once.

  4. Call me weird but I find that photo of all your beautiful shadows sitting in the cheetah palette so intoxicatingly pretty :) I've been thinking about getting a Z-palette for awhile now because I want to start collecting some Mac shadows. Thanks for the review and pictures :)

  5. Thanks for this review! I've heard about the palette from Jen from Frmheadtotoe. I don't have eye shadows but I look the idea of palettes, so cute and compact. I kind of want to try the Uni Palette because they have a huge mirror but it's pricey and I have nothing to put in there haha.

  6. I'm surprised that the Z palette is stronger despite being cardboard. I was thinking about getting one for random single shadows I have sitting around. I certainly don't have enough MAC to fill one up yet! I also love that you chose the leopard print =P

  7. I totally trust your opinion (because you're awesome! haha what a fan girl) and I like the idea of a clear top, but I don't think I'll ever get it cuz the logo is ugly :(. How sad.

  8. I've always thought abt getting one of these big palettes to put my e/s in but I'm so afraid of depotting stuff, but it would make a huge difference. I have a small z palette with a bunch of e/s and it's totally awesome to travel with.

  9. This looks great! You have such a gorgeous collection (: What blush is it on the far right? It looks a bit peachy, like Melba from MAC. Thanks! xo

  12. I just bought an Inglot freedom palette and it feels so sturdy - more so than my MAC palette x

  13. Cardboard-palettes are more sturdy than one should think! I have a cardboard-freestyle-palette from TKB-trading (8x8cm). I dropped it on the floor, and none of the shadows cracked! But that was tin-pans. I find that pans with magnets (f.ex. MAC-refills) won't stick as well on magnet palettes. Therefore I removed the magnet on my MAC-shadows and glued a piece of magnetic metal (from the e.l.f Compact palettes) on the bottom of them instead.

  14. This is such a lovely palette. I gotta say that it seems much more convenient as compared to MAC's palette in terms of its ability to store more eyeshadows and blushes!

  15. When you travel with your MAC palette do you have the insert in? Or do remove it to fit more shadows? I've never travelled with my MAC shadows so I'm just curious. I do like how you can see through the palette above.

  16. I got a small z palette as I don't really have that many eyeshadows and I love it.. It's very convenient and easy to carry around! Plus it's MUCH cheaper than MAC palettes for sure!

  17. I just ordered two z palettes last night. I'd heard a lot about them and how good they are. I have a bunch of single eyeshadows and small drugstore palettes and was getting tired of having to search through everything and now using up most of what I have. I'm so excited to get mine in and get them all organized!

  18. Traveling with z palettes is absolutely amazing. I have even accidentally dropped my paletts onto the ground while going through security and nth shattered. I have so many of them housing all my e/s and blushes! They are awesome space savers too! LOVE.
